MOLLIE’S FUND APPLAUDS THE SURGEON GENERAL’S CALL TO ACTION TO PREVENT SKIN CANCER
On July 29th, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services unveiled the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent Skin Cancer. A Call to Action is a science-based document used to stimulate the nation’s support to solve a major health crisis. This report recommends strategies for individuals, communities, policymakers, and state and federal government to reduce skin cancer-related illness, deaths, and healthcare costs.
The Call to Action is a review of the major initiatives that encompass a multi-faceted agenda to fight skin cancer and melanoma. This 102 page document summons all sectors of American society – business, healthcare, education, government and non-profits, as well as families and individuals to do more. The report emphasizes prevention tactics such as, providing shade in outdoor settings, health care providers counseling patients on the importance of using sun protection, and educational institutions discouraging indoor tanning. “We want all Americans to live healthy active lives,” Surgeon General Dr. Lushniak said, we ALL need to take an active role to prevent skin cancer…”
