On Monday, September 24th, over 300 supporters of the Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation gathered at Garden City Country Club for their Twelfth Annual Golf Outing, Dinner and Auctions. Thirty foursomes enjoyed perfect golf conditions, in a Texas scramble format. Dinner guests mingled with golfers outdoors during the cocktail hour and golf awards presentations. Garden City High School volunteers under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Fleming supported Mollie’s Fund by selling raffle tickets for more than one hundred prizes.
Dinner guests viewed “Highlights 2012” , a film illustrating the accomplishments of the foundation during the past year. Jack Biggane welcomed guests and introduced the speakers. Margaret Callahan, MD, PhD, an oncology fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering spoke of the excitement in the research community about the newly approved drugs for late stage melanoma. Meghan Westgarth, daughter of Bill Cowher, former Pittsburgh Steeler coach, shared her mother’s heartbreaking struggle with the disease. The live auction followed with George Pappas, assisted by Phil Honerkamp raising significant funds for the Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation to continue their work of skin cancer and melanoma awareness and prevention.
